“Stinger Instincts”
Article by Debbie Abbott

With the year winding down, and the holidays revving up … the muse angels brought some unexpected thoughts my way regarding Scorpio. I came to wonder if the eight-legged arachnid was capable of stinging itself. This is sort of how I feel as we near the edge of 2023.
Turns out, scorpions cannot sting themselves, accidentally or otherwise. And even if they could, they’re immune to their own venom. This fact of nature caused me tremendous relief because I knew the Angel Barbiel was telling me that the only wrong move is no move. A scorpion who lies in wait seals its fate, but one moving forward is courageous and undeterred.
So, let’s chat about ways to channel some Scorpio energy and call upon Barbiel, the Angel of Small Miracles, to help us all move forward.
Energy Orientation
Every astrological sign is connected to one of four earthly elements: Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. I was surprised to learn that Scorpio is not governed by Fire as one might think but, rather, is ruled by Water … the sensitive and emotional element linked to the Yin (feminine) zodiacs that also include Cancer and Pisces.
In direct opposition to their watery ways, Scorpio is a “fixed sign” meaning they are also powerfully stubborn—unlike the “mutable” and adaptable Sagittarius whose energy will be at the forefront of winter’s arrival next month.
Polarities such as this are inherent in all of the zodiac signs, and knowing how to use the pendulum of energy that each one brings with it is like harnessing a magic power.
Working with Barbiel can open pathways of passion and guide us toward the best way to achieve our goals without creating any self-sabotaging barriers. And when it comes to facing or making emotional decisions, Barbiel’s vibration can smooth out the ripples of distortion that cloud our judgment.
If you are striving to do the right thing, the Angel of Small Miracles is waiting to reward you. Call upon this Scorpio angel … offer gratitude … and ask for a specific blessing related to whatever you’re passionate about.
Keep in mind, this angel isn’t necessarily here to fuel your fire; that’s mostly your job. Barbiel is here to help you focus and control that fire—the burning desire—so it benefits you and the greater good. However, if you’re struggling to spark something passionate within yourself, Barbiel can guide your purpose toward you.
Trust the Answers
Receiving an answer we don’t like makes it hard to trust the humans we know. But when we ask the angels for guidance and they throw a fork in our proverbial road … it can be hard to listen to them, too.
We pivot to second-guessing and doubt, to sadness and anger, or worse—we stick with the status quo. Too afraid to trust the all-knowing voice that’s rising from our heart and soul. That rises from a place of purpose.
Everyone knows what excellent vision hindsight has, but wouldn’t it be nice to get it right sooner rather than later? There’s comfort in looking back to see the jagged pieces of life fitting together anyway. But I wish I could’ve learned earlier to trust the voices and visions of the angels. I’ve left a lot of breadcrumbs on my metaphorical path. Crumbs meant to inspire my passion and steer my pursuit of Dharma. Dream messages that have stuck with me since I was a child.
This is how the thoughts about stinging myself were curated by my guiding angels during this zodiac season of Scorpio. My ethereal guides could feel a wobble of apprehension growing in all seven chakras that I try so hard to keep in flow. When I meditated on my 2024 plans for Dharma Direction, they gave me a bittersweet answer.
Angels are always succinct and honest. That’s one of the ways you can tell if your subconscious is trying to override their advice and rope you back into patterned behaviors and programmed thoughts.
If the voice in your head is full of excuses and reasons … that’s not an angel.
If that voice comes through with one clear vision, or a small direct call to action … listen up, because that’s the voice of a higher power.
I came to understand long ago that just because something doesn’t harm you doesn’t mean it was the right choice. This is what I feared when I asked the angels for guidance regarding my future writing endeavors.
And when they showed me a very different plan than the one I’ve been formulating for some time now—I questioned their advice.
In response, they brought to my mind the vision of a scorpion stinging herself.
The angels were painting a picture that said: “Yes, it will hurt for a moment. But you’ll endure the rush and realize, once it subsides, that everything is fine. The scorpion has not truly harmed herself.”
With this new level of understanding, I approached my Dharma dilemma from a fresh perspective … no longer afraid of becoming my own worst enemy.
I’m saving the big announcement for our December editions, but you can hear it early in this month’s forthcoming Bonus Edition by tuning in to watch my interview with Colleen Markley—Dharma’s snarky humorist and award-winning writer of Erma Bombeck proportions.
Move’n
Rearrange those letters just so and they spell: venom. Isn’t that a funny little matrix moment?
Scorpions, despite being filled with venom, will remain perfectly still if you approach them slowly. They don’t lash out with their stinger instincts. No, they sit still in defiance, daring you to get close enough to do them harm. Close enough for them to sting you.
Ironically, the scorpions that move, live to see another day. The ones that remain still, are doomed beneath the end of a broom. That’s how my husband takes them out. Whether it’s arrogance or ignorance that causes this behavior in a bug remains a mystery to me, but remaining still isn’t a good survival skill in the case of scorpions or humans.
Moving in the right direction is another piece of the puzzle when we’re trying to avoid stinging ourselves with the misguided arrogance of complacency or denial. One of my favorite inspirational humans is Deepak Chopra, and he says …
“You would not have an intention or a dream unless you had the ability to fulfill that dream, to manifest it.”
This is a powerful statement and one that I wholeheartedly agree with. Just like I have no intention or dream of becoming a math teacher or accountant, because I don’t have the ability to fulfill that dream. I hate math. And numbers.
Maybe real scorpions think that invisibility is one of their abilities, and that’s why they just let us squish them … or harvest them for creepy souvenir paper weights and disgusting novelty candy. By the time they realize we can see them and that we’re brave enough to attack or trap them, it’s too late. My ex-husband, a Scorpio, used to tell me all the time to just blend in whenever he was sneaking us into somewhere we weren’t supposed to be (like the front row of an Alanis Morissette concert). His ‘invisibility’ tactic worked most of the time, but the stress of the moment was like poison in my gut.
Thankfully, I know my limitations and my loves. I have the passion for and the ability to write … to fulfill that dream … to manifest the future utilizing the innate gifts my soul came here with. We all have that power. Our own unique magic.
If there’s something you’re passionate about, a dream you’ve had that won’t let go of your heart … I encourage you to move toward it. You don’t even have to worry about how. Just ask the angels for clear guidance and heed it when it knocks on your door. You’ll know the moment it arrives, feeling like déjà vu or a coincidence. The angels want us to know that these feelings are green lights. Beacons. Follow them. They will guide you toward your destiny. Your Dharma.
See you there ~
Debbie
